Join Mayor Wilda Parks and the Milwaukie American Legion Color Guard in a flag disposal and flag raising ceremony to celebrate Flag Day on Sunday, June 14, at noon, in front of Milwaukie City Hall.

Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The Flag Day ceremony is a part of a partnership between the City of Milwaukie and the Milwaukie Legion marking the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. As part of the United States Department of Defense's Commemoration Program the City and Legion are organizing special events and programs to observe the 50th anniversary in 2015, 2016, and 2017. The goal of this partnership is to honor the men and women who responded to our nation's call to service in Vietnam, Southeast Asia, and on the home front.

This year’s flagship event is the hosting of the Vietnam Memorial Wall on July 23rd through the 26th at Milwaukie High School. A half-sized replica of the monument in Washington DC will be on display during this time, and on Saturday, July 25th there will be a Military Service & sacrifice Parade in Downtown.
