Milwaukie Population and Housing

The City of Milwaukie itself is a relatively small jurisdiction with a population of approximately 20,600. However, because Milwaukie is located in the middle of the metro area, it is easily accessible to a much larger population base. There are approximately 98,000 people within 3 miles of downtown Milwaukie and within 5 miles is a population of nearly 306,000.

Milwaukie has nearly 9,000 housing units that can serve the needs of a wide range of incomes.  These range from affordable rentals and starter homes to high end properties overlooking the Williamette River.  Our housing stock is 60% owner-occupied and 40% rental.  The cost to buy or rent a home in Milwaukie is also significantly lower than elsewhere in Clackamas County or compared to the regional average.

Another advantage that Milwaukie offers businesses and their employees is the fact that it is inexpensive. Here is a comparison of business taxes in Milwaukie to Portland, the closest jurisdiction to Milwaukie and the jurisdiction that offers many of the same location attributes. This analysis shows business and property taxes in Milwaukie are up 36% less expensive than they would be in Portland.
