The year 2006 brings new opportunities for the City of Milwaukie. When I began my term as a councilor, Milwaukie actually was a different place. Today, our City has changed and our residents make up a different demographic. We are seeing the migration of younger families with children moving into our neighborhoods. People moving to Milwaukie are getting more involved in their neighborhoods and are stepping forward to serve on City committees and boards. We thank all those new Milwaukians and congratulate their choice for a new hometown. 

We continue to gain strength in terms of economic development, something necessary for our library to continue to grow. New business and old business continue to expand within our borders. Good economic news coming from those partners means additional tax revenue for the City. It's a continuing pleasure to be a member of the team traveling to many of our businesses in Milwaukie. The reaction that an elected official would actually ask them how things are going is surprising to many. 

Finally, it is interesting to note the diversity of positions on many different topics facing our City. The input as to where I should take a stand comes from many different resources. I have always believed that before a final decision is made you should listen and look at both the most vocal standing and those that are quietly listening. Somewhere, in the middle, you may find the reality.
