Overview

Board or commission vacancies are filled by appointment of the mayor with the consent of council. Appointments are made for terms not to exceed four years and will expire the last day of March unless mandated otherwise by state statute. All board members or commissioners shall serve without compensation.  For a detailed description of the City's boards, commission and committees, please refer to the City's Municipal code, Title 2, Administration and Personnel.

Center/Community Advisory Board

The center/community advisory board is established for the purpose of advising the city council, NCPRD and center staff regarding center client/participant needs. The board will address the programs and facilities of the Milwaukie center concentrating on the problems, desires, and needs of senior citizens and others in the Milwaukie area. The board shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following activities:
    A.    Making decisions regarding capital improvements, programs, policies and maintenance and operations policies that will have to be approved by both the Milwaukie city council (deedholders to the property and facilities) and the NCPRD board; and
    B.    Providing the NCPRD board of directors with budget recommendations. (Ord. 1796 § 2 (part), 1996: Ord. 1582 § 1, 1985)

Meetings are held every 2nd Friday at 10:00 am in the Salal Room at the Milwaukie Center.

Milwaukie Center Mission

The mission of the Milwaukie Center is to be a link to resources for older adults and their families - and a place for the community to gather, grow and contribute.

Milwaukie Center Background Information

The Milwaukie Center opened its doors in 1980 as a facility established to encourage maximum collocation and coordination of services for older adults. Under the Older American's Act of 1965, multipurpose senior centers like the Milwaukie Center are promoted as community facilities for comprehensive delivery of a broad spectrum of services, including health, mental health, social, nutrition, transportation, educational opportunities and recreational activities. In addition, the Milwaukie Center provides space for community use.
