The Engineering Department is involved in many issues related to the public works improvements that exist within the City and that are necessary to be added. These range from helping citizens locate sewer and water lines near their homes to the design and supervision of major street improvement projects.

Primary Function and Goals

  1. Provides design and construction management of all capital improvement projects.

  2. Recommends an update to the adopted 5-year Capital Improvement Plan based on adopted utility master plans and current needs. Provides for orderly implementation of the projects from the 5-year Capital Improvement Plan.

  3. Supports efforts to increase funding sources for infrastructure, particularly for street maintenance.

  4. Develops an equitable sewage treatment agreement in conjunction with Water Environment Services.  Helps identify alternative opportunities in sewage treatment for Council consideration.

  5. Implements the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program, School Trip Safety Program, and Transportation System Plan.  Support the Public Safety Advisory Committee.

Revenue Sources

Engineering is an Internal Services Fund, and the costs of this fund are charged back to Public Works functions.
