 Department/Division Primary Mission and Responsibilities:
Provide safe drinking water to our customers and maintain the water system.

Brief Description of the types of Projects, Programs and Services typically conducted by the department:
The water division has an ongoing water line replacement program. A backflow cross connection program. Weekly water quality sampling, and yearly sampling to meet all state and federal water quality requirements. Water system mapping projects that include global positioning systems (gps) and geographic information systems (gis). Meter replacement and testing location of the public water systems. All types of customer services. Examples would be locating leaks, turnons and turnoffs for maintenance. Water quality calls like dirty water, taste, and smell, high pressure, low pressure, etc.

Budget for the 99-00 Fiscal Year: $4,964,000

Location of Facilities: Eleven different locations around the City

Resources of Interest to the Community:
System includes: Seven wells, three pressure pump stations, two air stripping stations for five of the wells, one elevated 1.5 million gallon tank, one concrete 1.5 million gallon reservoir, one 3 million gallon steel reservoir. The system has 6,500 water account services and water meters, 750 fire hydrants, and 1400 control valves that cover 100 miles of water line in the streets of Milwuakie.

The crew consists of a 2 person maintenance team, 2 person customer service team, a water quality person that maintains pumps, wells, sampling and state health department requirements, a special projects person, and one operations supervisor.
