Deadline for Proposals for Town Center Project Extended

Six firms interested in developing the Milwaukie-Metro Town Center project attended a pre-proposal meeting on Jan. 9th at Milwaukie City Hall.

The meeting was advertised in the Request for Proposals (RFP) as a time when respondents could ask questions and gain clarification about the RFP contents. The RFP calls for proposals describing a mixed-use project for the former Texaco site across from City Hall. The RFP is posted on the City’s website, www.cityofmilwaukie.org

One outcome from the meeting was a decision to extend the deadline for submitting proposals. The Project Management Group made the decision after considering the unanimous opinion from the assembled development teams that more time would be necessary to prepare proposals that would adequately address the issues raised in the RFP.

Proposals are now due on Feb. 21st. The three-week delay means that final selection of a developer will now likely occur in April.

Milwaukie Community Development Director Kenny Asher said he was pleased by the level of interest.

“I’m encouraged that there’s interest in the site,” Kenny said. “Although there’s no guarantee that any of these teams will actually submit proposals, it’s a hopeful start. We have a quality group of experienced people examining the project.”

After the RFP period closes, the Project Management Group will work with the citizen-based Project Advisory Committee to evaluate any proposals that come in. A public open house for commenting on finalists is being tentatively scheduled for March 13th.
