Now that Carlotta Collette has taken her position on Metro Council and has resigned from her post on Milwaukie’s City Council, the City is taking applications for those interested in serving through the March 2008 election.

Applications are to be submitted no later than noon on November 19, 2007 to the City Recorder’s Office in Milwaukie City Hall, 10722 SE Main St., faxed to 503.653.2444, or e-mailed to duvalp@ci.milwaukie.or.us. The applications can be picked up at City Hall or downloaded here for PDF format or WORD format. To be considered one must be a qualified elector in Oregon and resident of Milwaukie for 6 months prior to the date of application.

The remaining four City Councilors, Mayor James Bernard, Councilor Deborah Barnes, Councilor Joe Loomis, and Councilor Susan Stone, may begin interviews on Nov. 20, 2007 depending on the number of applications received, so applicants are asked to be prepared for interviews within 24 hours’ notice. The remaining Councilors are expected to appoint the position, by majority vote, at the regular session on Dec. 4, 2007.

As outlined in Milwaukie’s Charter, the appointee will serve through the March 2008 election. The winner of that election will serve the unexpired portion of Council Position #1’s term through December of 2008. The November 2008 election will determine the position through December 2012.
