Market Organizers, Community, Discuss Future Location of Milwaukie Farmers' Market

Organizers Brendan Eiswerth and Mayor Jim Bernard sat down with vendors, customers and several market managers from around the region on Oct. 18th to talk about what makes a successful market, how to preserve a market’s success when its location changes, and to discuss potential future sites for Milwaukie’s market.

The Market located on the former Texaco site and the city-owned parking lot across from City Hall on Main Street and Harrison Street is slated for development, so efforts are now being made to find a site that will not only preserve the market’s current success, but will accommodate future growth.

The Market will operate at its current location through the 2007 season. Brendan, Jim and interested parties will begin meeting on a regular basis to discuss some of the issues fleshed out at the October meeting, including: evaluating potential sites (such as Milwaukie Riverfront Park, the Waldorf School, and the City’s recently acquired Cash Spot property at McLoughlin and Washington Street), building better communication between the City, market organizers, and vendors, and creating a year-round market.

To learn more about future meetings, check the City’s website or call (503) 786-7503.
