Councilor Gamba gains Milwaukie representation on regional policy board

Mon Feb 9th, 2015

For the first time since 2000 Milwaukie has a representative on MPAC – the regional committee that advises the Metro Council on growth management and land use issues at the policy level.

“Milwaukie is a part of a larger Metro area and being at the table when important decisions are made gives us a voice and gives us a chance to build important relationships with neighboring communities,” Gamba said.

Councilor Gamba says he is looking forward to digging into the Urban Growth Boundary discussion and all of the ramifications it will have for the future of the region.

Established by the Metro Charter in 1992, MPAC advises the Metro Council on the amendment or adoption of the Regional Framework Plan. While MPAC advises the Metro Council on growth management and land use issues at the policy level, the Metro Technical Advisory Committee provides input to MPAC at the technical level.

Policy areas MPAC addresses include:

  • regional transportation
  • management of the urban growth boundary
  • protection of lands outside the urban growth boundary for natural resources, future urban zoning, or other uses
  • planning responsibilities required by state law
  • other growth management and land use planning matters deemed by Metro Council to be of the region’s concern.
